What you will be doing

The Optical Designer is responsible for working with customers and internal stakeholders to define cost‑effective, technically compliant solutions to requirements for optical and opto‑mechanical systems.
Key responsibilities:

Provide optical and mechanical design solutions in line with customer and internal specifications, aligned with Umicore manufacturing capabilities
Support the Sales Team during customer visits and at exhibitions by providing technical expertise as required
Support Operations and the Quality Assurance department, including identification and resolution of manufacturing issues related to design
Define optical performance criteria, prepare test specifications, and support measurement and validation of optical systems
Prepare and deliver technical presentations of optical solutions in support of the Sales Team

Who we are looking for

Degree in Physics or Engineering; focus on Optics is desirable
Basic knowledge of optical design principles and optical design software
Experience in the design of infrared optical assemblies is a plus
Experience in software design and codingStrong self‑management skills with the ability to deliver work on time
Project management skills within own area of responsibility
Good command of English for communication with customers and within the team
French language skills are desirable, as the position is based in France
Team player with strong respect for project deadlines
Self‑organized and able to work independently
Strong attention to detail
High level of technical affinity
