About Rechargeable Battery Materials (RBM)

We are all on the move. Umicore’s rechargeable battery materials give people autonomy and connectivity. We are a pioneer in battery materials that give added range and performance to electric vehicles. Our materials also ensure longer battery life for portable electronics. To enable our customers to produce even better performing batteries we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. What you will be doing

Main Responsibilities

• Responsible for the global development and execution of the business strategy of North American headquartered customers as outlined in the RBM business plan.

• Win key projects and ensure their smooth launch as outlined in the Integrated Business Plan (IBP). Responsible for realization of local sales volumes & revenue as defined in IBP per customer and region. Support the localization of production to the to be newly established North American plant.

• Build strong relationships and partnerships with major OEMs and cell makers at all levels of the organization, influencing them in their purchasing decisions:

  •  Influence the buying criteria of OEM’s that are not yet under directed-buy concepts to make the sales process to the cell makers easier and more sustainable.
  •  Influence the customer base with clear sustainability topics: CO2 emission, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), sustainable metal procurement etc, recycling.
  •  Responsible for customer specific marketing and communication within the overall RBM strategy.

• Through the OEM contacts:

  • Ensure there is an excellent sharing and alignment between OEM requirements and the RBM functional needs.
  • Get a broad view on future requirements starting from vehicle build to cathode and raw material demand in order to better plan our growth profile.
  • Collect market intelligence information for the respective customer base.

• Secure additional business & revenues for RBM through exploration of the OEM “direct-sourcing” and “directed-buy” models. Explore and establish new business concepts like LTCA to form strategic alliances and therefore create a better impact towards OEMs and safeguard our long-term growth profile and profitability.

• Support the local execution of the global business strategy of OEM and cell makers which are headquartered outside the region.

• Manage customer specific quality management issues and coordinate their implementation within RBM. Carefully manage the 4M change process towards OEMs & cell makers in balancing the quality risk and operational efficiency

• Ensure that all risk management elements are addressed with OEM or cell maker. Examples are solid contractual base with each customer, back-to-back metals agreements, forex management, warranty and liability, supply chain risk, receivable management.

Who we are looking for

Education & Technical Background

  •  Master's degree in Engineering/Science/Economics/Business Administration
  •  Preferred executive education in sales/marketing/strategy
  •  Minimum 10-15 years experience, preferably in a B2B commercial environment in automotive, metals or materials
  •  Demonstrated technical understanding of metal-based materials (experience in battery technology & cathode materials is preferred)
  •  Fluent in English, other language skills are an advantage
