About the role

 

This position has the global responsibility for reporting and forecasting Umicore’s ETR and cash income for approximately 110 legal entities worldwide. As such, it also owns the tax balance sheet, the tax footnote, and the provisioning for all material income tax risks. In addition, the function manages the corporate income tax (CIT) compliance process on a worldwide basis.

 

What you will be doing

 

  • Ownership and Digitization of the IAS12 reporting process: review and map the present manual process, identify gaps with best practice, and identify remediation actions in alignment with the Umicore Accounting Director; digitize the process, starting with a comparative analysis of best practice tools (OTP, Longview, Corptax) and the management of an RFP and implementation; keep the process well-documented, updated, and communicated throughout the Umicore user community; act as Umicore’s global interface with [OTP] and own all functional improvements and user rights
  • Tax Dashboard: co-ordinate the periodic compilation of relevant data in collaboration with other team members and the Vice President, Taxes; organize a regular report-out to the Vice President Tax, VP Group Accounting and Controlling, and CFO
  • Disclosure: ensure the preparation and ownership of the income tax footnote in partnership with the Umicore Accounting Director; provide documentary support for all material tax positions based on tracking of internal and external  developments
  • Manage the external audit of the IAS12 process and reporting position; manage the relationship with the auditor in this area
  • Ownership of the IFRIC23 process: ensure that all material UTPs be identified, measured, tracked, updated and approved and, on a “need to know” basis only, communicated
  • Forecasting and impact analysis re: book taxes: develop and own the Umicore tax sensitivity model, which should serve as a key performance monitoring and valuation tool, to reflect the impact on book taxes from continuing operations, acquisitions, divestitures, and reorganizations; perform regular gap analysis between actuals and (revised) forecast
  • Reporting and forecasting of cash income taxes: organize and own the regular cash tax approvals and tracking process; introduce and maintain a rolling one-year cash tax forecasting process; analyze the bridge between cash and book taxes
  • User trainings and maintenance of policies and process descriptions
  • ERP implementation: provide functional leadership to the Umicore IT team to ensure automation of key corporate income tax accounting, reporting and compliance processes and gap analyses
  • M&A and reorganization support: jointly with Umicore’s Accounting Director and external service providers, prepare and review the tax basis balance sheet (TBBS) and carve-out financial statements in the event of acquisitions or divestitures; select external providers as appropriate and lead the progress until completion
  • Income tax compliance: develop the global leadership and monitoring of the income tax compliance (CIT return) process; prepare the outsourcing of said process to a worldwide income tax compliance partner
  • Tax audits: monitor material income tax audits worldwide in conjunction with other team members, the relevant Umicore finance leaders, and external service providers
  • Assist with various international tax projects and research on specific technical income tax issues
  • External advisory selection and management

 

Who we are looking for

 

Skills:

  • IAS 12 proficiency
  • User proficiency in OTP, CorpTax, Longview or similar best-practice international tax reporting tool

 

Qualifications:

  • Accounting Degree -- CPA/MBA/MS preferred
  • 10 years+ tax accounting experience in a Big-4 or an in-house role (regional or corporate level)
  • Knowledge of financial/tax modelling
  • SAP and OTP user and Microsoft skills

  • Strong business orientation and proven track record as an effective business partner
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) and preferably at least one additional language
