About Rechargeable Battery Materials

We are all on the move. Umicore’s rechargeable battery materials (RBM) give people autonomy and connectivity. We are a pioneer in battery materials that give added range and performance to electric vehicles. Our materials also ensure longer battery life for portable electronics. To enable our customers to produce even better performing batteries we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. Which is where you come in.

What you will be doing

Support the rapid growth of the Business Unit by conceiving and implementing the BU’s strategy regarding Process R&D, Process Technology implementation and Excellence. The function holder will be responsible for as well industrialization and implementation of the latest process technology. Main areas of responsibilities: 

Process Technology (PT) representative of the COO management team

  • As key member of the COO MT, provide active contribution to the BU’s general management requirements: regular reporting & communication, annual budget exercise, frequent OPEX approval request files
  • Define PT strategy and targets and assure alignment with the BU strategy and objectives
  • Substantially improve the capex density through PT improvements
  • Support the Lets got to Zero ESG goals by reducing the impact of our operations
  • Drive the industrialisation of a global, multibillion capacity build together with Engineering & Operations
  • Manage and organize the central PT people resources during the expected strong growth phase in the next 5 years
  • Provide guidance to RBM QMS for process related policies (APQP, Change Mgt etc.) 


Process Technology (PT) Activities and Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise three important domains:
    • Process R&D: Develop the latest Technology
    • Process Implementation: Expand and Scale capacity
    • PT Validation: analytical excellence on conformity
  • Technical support to RBM QMS for quality issues and to RBM EHS
  • Continuous optimization of process equipment, supplier selection, infrastructure and logistical set up and development of the organisation to cope with the massive growth requirements
  • Continuous cost optimization focus
  • Stimulate continuous improvements and scouting of new process ideas & technologies
  • Develop and manage an internal and external network for keeping up to date and benchmarking technology
  • Evaluate emerging (breakthrough) technologies on potential for RBM’s business model and production plan

Who we are looking for

You are an ideal candidate for us as you:

  • hold a Master degree in (chemical) Engineering
  • have minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience with at least 5 years in a leading operational function; having an engineering and/or manufacturing process experience
  • have demonstrated team building and leadership skills in a matrix driven and international context: pragmatic leadership with focus on open dialogue
  • possess working knowledge and experience in key operations best practices techniques including but not limited to lean, Six Sigma, TQM, Kaizan etc.
  • are an "Out of the box thinker” willing to take innovative decisions to answer to scaling need, while the same time respecting investment/return ratio
  • possess analytical skills, business acumen and in-depth understanding of business models and are strategic and work result-oriented
  • an entrepreneurial personality who thinks laterally and creatively about the business, is flexible and agile, makes decisions and demonstrates managerial courage
  • are experienced to manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities
  • know to maintain strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving and change management skills
  • have good knowledge of general mgt, in particular budgeting & controlling
  • are fluent in English, experience in Asia is a plus
  • are prepared for regular international travels
  • capable user of PC MS office applications
  • want to contribute to the profitable growth of a sustainable business
