What you will be doing

As Head of Group Risk Management you will hold a pivotal Senior Management position within Umicore reporting to the CFO. In this influential role, you will drive risk management activities at the corporate level and serve as the vital interface between the Business Groups and Management Board. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing robust risk management strategies and frameworks, ensuring the organization's financial stability, and aligning risk-taking decisions with Umicore's long-term goals (RISE 2030). As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to shape the company's risk management practices and contribute to its sustainable growth and success.

 

Main areas of responsibilities: 

  • Develop risk management strategies and frameworks to effectively anticipate, quantify, and mitigate risks within the defined boundaries
  • Monitor the financial risk profile, risk metrics, conduct stress tests and strategic what-if analyses to assess potential impacts
  • Aggregate risk information obtained from various Functional and Business Groups
  • Interpret key risk indicators and risk dashboards, providing valuable insights to support decision-making
  • Oversee the implementation of risk management practices, training programs, and ensure common standards and methodologies are applied and understood by various stakeholders (e.g., Investor Relations, sales, procurement, operations, …)
  • Enhance key existing business processes such as financial planning, budgeting, corporate strategy, investor relations, etc., by adding a risk layer
  • Escalate major issues in mitigation tracking to the financial risk committee to avoid delays in execution timelines
  • Manage timelines, functional risk meetings, and workshops as required
  • Prepare financial risk committee meetings and consolidate outcomes for management
  • Reporting to the CFO, act as a 2nd line of defense in the financial risk management governance structure
  • Communicate consolidated risk-related decisions back to Business Groups
  • Function as a sparring, advising partner for important business and investment decisions, providing risk insights and acting as the go-to risk expert on corporate level
  • Champion consistency and coherence by harmonizing underlying parameters across diverse opportunities, ensuring accuracy and reliability in assessing risks and investments

Who we are looking for

You are an ideal candidate for us as you: 

  • Have Senior Director-level experience or above in a similar role, preferably within a multinational organization
  • Hold a Master's degree in finance, statistics, or a related field; or equal through experience
  • Have gained a minimum of 15 years of experience in controlling, risk management or in similar functions
  • Showcase an enterprise and strategic mindset and the ability to align financial risk management with Umicore's long-term goals 
  • Proven leadership track record over multi-functional teams and executive presence 
  • Possess strong analytical and quantitative skills to analyze financial data, identify trends, and assess impacts
  • Demonstrate expertise in risk management practices
  • Have experience in change management, planning, developing and implementing programs; show decisiveness, initiative & strong stakeholder management across various cultures
  • Possess solid conceptual understanding of business models
  • Follow the dynamics in different markets/regions/industries related to Umicore business
