About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for an Analytical Lab Specialist reporting to the Technical Analytical Lab Manager.  In this role you will be responsible for reliability of analytical tests for related area. Due to the rapid growth of Umicore Battery Materials, with many new products being developed, the analytical lab faces major challenges. To maintain a high level of quality and reliability of analytical activities, the analytical laboratory specialists will secure the reliability of analysis by monitoring equipment reliability in the related area and be responsible for executing new methods and technologies in the lab.

 

Responsibilities

    • Monitoring of equipment reliability in the related lab area
    • Ensure the analytical reliability in the related area through reliability results
    • Secures planning, scheduling and execution of analysis and equipment quality monitoring by using the appropriate statistical tools (SPC, LOD/LOQ, MSA, 6 sigma), and reviewing the data regularly
    • Technical SOP management (implementation, training, and, regular review)
    • Review of test results for requirements of other departments (validation, cross checks, and investigations)
    • Provide a training for new SOPs and updates to SOPs to the lab technicians
    • Check to keep the laboratory quality system based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, IATF 16949 and ISO17025
    • Support to set up LIMS master data
    • Find root causes and create corrective actions about reliability issues

 

Who we are looking for

    • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
    • Knowledge and understanding of chemistry and chemical analysis
    • 2+ years of experience in an Analytical Lab in Academia or Industry
    • Strong problem-solving and Analytical skills
    • Experience with lab operations, QMS and Statistic tools
    • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIM
    • Analytical mindset, critical thinking, and problem solving ability
    • Good communication skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • This roles onboarding program includes 3-6 months training in Europe.
