About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer, reporting to the Program Director. In this role you will be responsible for assigning specialized engineers from the Mechanical Engineering team, to the project teams, to support the construction and installation of the facility and to liaise with contractors to successfully implement new assets and facilities through commissioning, in line with the expectations of the stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the project managers the necessary Mechanical engineers for each project
  • Guarantee the execution of work within the project agreed scope, planning and budget of the Mechanical responsibilities
  • Coordinates with contractors the work awarded to such contractors, guaranteeing a safe execution, the quality of service and that timelines are respected
  • Detecting any roadblocks in a timely manner and take corrective action to overcome them
  • Manages risk, change of scope and deviations of the work assigned to his team members
  • Ensures that project documents are complete and in accordance with procedures and timelines
  • Works with other specialized teams, integrating the work with other specialties into the final project solution, assuring that timelines are met
  • Proposes improvements (procedures, organizational, new technologies, capex, productivity) as appropriate
  • Carries out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and to comply with environmental, health & safety rules/procedures, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Performs or supports commissioning of the equipment before handing over to the Process team and supports process team during the internal qualification

 

Who we are looking for

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Technical experience in the execution of large scale engineering projects
  • Relevant experience (>2 years) and understanding in the execution of industrial installations
  • Knowledge of EHS standards, industry good practices and legal requirements applicable to the specialty of focus
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office package
