About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Procurement Center Manager reporting to the Opex Procurement Director.  In this role you will be responsible for leading the Procurement Center (PC) of Loyalist, providing leadership to both the Opex procurement team, the indirect materials warehouse team and the logistics team. You actively and autonomously drive and pursue procurement added value contributions to the internal departments while ensuring business alignment and fine tuning policies, strategies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the Opex procurement team of Loyalist to deliver on time and quality and ensure stability of the processes.
  • Local category sourcing, contract implementations, supplier management, management of vendor master data
  • High level follow up of internal and external warehouses of all sites in view of cost & efficiency
  • Responsible to set up PC Loyalist procedures and standardization regarding Opex procurement and warehousing in alignment with UBM Support Service strategy and Umicore general procedures and guidelines
  • Take a strategic and long term view in identifying and developing innovative sources and contractual arrangements, and establish the targets in alignment with internal departments
  • Establish spend baselines and category profiles, inclusive risk assessment, supplier relationship management and procure to pay strategy
  • Prepare and lead agreement negotiations in cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure alignment with global & regional business strategies, overall procurement strategy and the projected added value plan
  • Develop operations performance metrics, processes and targets in support of SLA’s towards the internal departments
  • Ensure alignment of centrally developed standards, procedures, best practices with regional stakeholders/customers

 

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or other relevant education
  • Minimum 5-7 years experience in procurement, at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Capable user of PC MS office applications & SAP systems
  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills
  • Good mix of conceptual/strategic thinking and practical execution
  • Performance and result oriented, internal customer focused, strives for continuous improvement
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking and decision making; strong project and risk management skills
  • Exemplary behaviour in ethics and integrity
  • Strong communicator and interpersonal impact (influencing and persuading)
  • Teamwork, collaboration & flexibility are important to you
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, strategic orientation and thinking
