About Rechargeable Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing

We are currently looking for a Tax Manager for our new site in Canada who will oversee Umicore’s Canadian federal and provincial tax compliance. Taxes to be included: income tax, HST (VAT), property tax. This position will also assist the Senior Tax Manager in responding to and handling any audits of the above taxes.

  • Gather and review data for preparation of the annual federal and provincial corporate income tax returns.
  • Gather data, analyze and submit reports to comply with SIF/Ontario grants.
  • Prepare or oversee third-party tax provision calculations and estimated income tax payments.
  • Stay abreast of all federal and state proposed and enacted law changes and model potential impacts to Umicore.
  • Oversee remote locations’ monthly and quarterly sales and use tax and gross receipts tax returns, including assisting in resolving nexus and preparing registrations as needed.
  • Gather data and prepare annual tax depreciation calculations.
  • Oversee annual property tax return compliance and audits.
  • Gather data and prepare annual federal information returns.
  • Prepare responses to federal and provincial notices and audit requests.
  • Identify and implement process improvement and automation projects.
  • Monitor federal and provincial tax legislation.

 

Who we are looking for

  • 4 Year degree in Accounting (or Finance/Economics related field) required, Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and corporate taxation; preferred 2 to 4 years’ experience at a national CPA firm.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, with deep Excel experience, and preferably experience with SAP.
  • Excellent communicator with both internal and external partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail demonstrating the ability to “get it right the first time.”
  • Excellent time management and organization skills with a consistent record of meeting multiple simultaneous deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian corporate tax laws and regulations, with the ability to use professional software to research a variety of issues.
  • Focus on process improvement for both efficiency and accuracy.
