About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Vertical Start-up Engineer reporting to the Vertical Start-up Manager. In this role you will be responsible for supporting the setup and start-up of the new facility in Loyalist to achieve a timely and successful launch of operations. You will help coordinate between all on-site stakeholders in Umicore Battery Materials Canada and work with the global VSU team to implement standards, templates, and feedback experiences.

Responsibilities

• • On-site coordination between the CAPEX project team, commissioning/qualification team and operational setup team
  • Monitoring progress, detecting deviations with potential impact on overall timing, cost and scope of the site setup, defining actions to remediate deviations with all stakeholders and if necessary escalate to the program owner
  • Assist with the implementation of standards (lot size, standardize packaging method, systems) in the new setup/expansion
  • Assist with application of the operational setup template, including typical operational organization and functions, key procedures, job descriptions, standards, systems
  • Provide operational feedback to engineering team on design, maintainability, lessons learned from other sites.
  • Assist during commissioning and startup for new concepts
  • Gather potential improvements and channel back to global VSU team for potential standardization
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the improvements

Who we are looking for

• • Bachelors or Master’s degree in engineering or other relevant education
  •  5+ years of experience in an operational role in an industrial environment
  • Good knowledge of variety of systems & tools applied in operational excellence and experience in implementing operational excellence on the work floor
  • Positive and determined approach to researching and analyzing a variety of operational processes in view of optimization
  • Capable of managing several priorities under time restraint and meet deadlines
  • Good knowledge of product and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to adapt and work through ambiguity and changing priorities
