What you will be doing

As Upscaling and Engineering Manager you investigate and test the upscaling possibilities of the different steps of the anode material process in order to define the most optimum global process flow sheet on safety, product quality, robustness and cost (CAPEX calculations & OPEX simulations) dimensions. You actively participate to the engineering phase of this global process implementation at industrial pilot level and at mass production plant level.
You work in a multi-disciplinary environment from anode research and development teams to internal and external testing and engineering partners!
You will report into the anode battery materials piloting manager, located in Olen – Belgium.

Your detailed responsibilities

As upscaling manager:

  • Define and test internally or externally the upscaling possibilities of the different anode process steps within the anode piloting team program (scope, timing, priorities, budget & resources)
  • Report on the upscaling progress results according to different dimensions: safety, product quality (up to final battery application), process robustness and costs (CAPEX & OPEX simulation)
  • Support upscaling modelling programs (scientific, technology & costs)
  • Provide technical support to the anode production team for existing process stabilization and improvement and quality system set up
  • Support the industrialization process by qualifying new raw materials or new processes for continuous improvement


As engineering manager:

  • Support the internal and external international engineering teams to implement the upscaling solutions in the industrial pilot line and in the mass production plants
  • Provide safety guidelines on new process to engineering and operations teams
  • Assist them during commissioning phase
  • Set-up and handle network relations relevant for the anode engineering project (technology providers, suppliers, competitors, peers and customers)

Who we are looking for

  • You have acquired a Technical Master degree (engineering or applied sciences), with confirmed experience (> 5 years) in a materials engineering and industrialization field
  • Experience in the field of battery materials process technology and engineering is a plus
  • Very good understanding of process upscaling, coupled to an excellent knowledge of industrial processes and equipment
  • Good practical knowledge of safety procedures and standard methodologies with flammable solvents and explosive atmosphere (ATEX)
  • Knowledgeable in quality related subject areas (process control, quality control, …)
  • Good project management and organizational skills; focus on scope, budget and timeline
  • Firm decision maker with a pragmatic and creative approach in problem solving notably during industrial testing
  • Able to work with breakthroughs and challenging planning
  • Strong leadership and people management skills in multi-disciplinary project organization and cross-cultural environment
  • Transparent and efficient communicator with good presentation skills
  • Proficient writing and speaking in English and Dutch, other languages (such as German, French & Spanish) is a plus
