What you will be doing

The Project Manager:

  1. Identifies opportunities in the field of Analytical Technology and transform these opportunities into a well-defined analytical project
  2. Creates business calculations to support project and CAPEX approvals
  3. Globally manages the execution of the project within cross-functional and global analytical teams (including priority setting and implementation of corrective actions) to ensure that the project is delivered within scope, time and budget; while maintaining the high standard of analytical methods and striving for operational excellence in the analytical laboratories.
  4. Functionally manages the project teams with team members from different areas (e.g. analytical laboratories, PT, IT and Operations).
  5. Reports project status to the Program Manager and, occasionally, to various stakeholders through project review and steerco meetings.
  6. Evaluates the implemented improvement through success rate, statistics and cost assessment; and provide post-project support to the analytical laboratory
  7. Collaborates with analytical teams to ensure global standardization of equipment and analytical methods
  8. Builds and applies technical expertise in the field of Analytical Technology.
  9. Ensures Excellence in Execution (ExE) according to Umicore’s OE framework (Employees, Quality, EHS, Customer, Productivity, Resources)

 

The Project Manager will work in one of the following domains:

  1. Analytical Innovation:
    • Improving analytical processes through lean six sigma methodologies (5s, Waste removal, Value Stream Mapping, Yamazumi charting, Kaizen events and/or DMAIC processes)
    • Developing and optimizing sampling processes (including automation and robotization)
    • Developing and implementing automation/digital solutions for/in the analytical laboratories
    • Developing and implementing in-line/at-line analysis at the production area

 

  1. Method Development and Industrialization:
    • Defining the analytical methodology for new pCAM/CAM products (including raw materials, additives, intermediates, process samples, the final product and environmental samples)
    • Developing new analytical methods or improving existing analytical methods (including selecting the appropriate analytical technology/equipment).
    • Documenting and maintaining the analytical methodology (LIMS master data, SOP’s, technical documentation, calculation sheets and training documentation)
    • Globally industrializing the analytical methodology to the relevant analytical laboratories
    • Managing the global alignment status by means cross-check or alignment exercises

 

Who we are looking for

1. Education and experience:

  • Master in Chemistry, Physics, Geology or related field; or equivalent through experience.
  • Minimal 5 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment
  • Familiar with norms such as ISO9001, ISO17025 and IATF16949
  • Familiar with quality tools such as MSA, SPC, FMEA

 

2. Technical skills:

  • Experience with analytical lab operations
  • Experience with (i) method development and industrialization or (ii) automation and digitalization
  • Experience with lean six sigma methodologies and, preferably, with lean six sigma qualification (Green Belt)
  • Experience with Project management
  • Fluent English
  • Working experience in a multi-national/multi-cultural environment is an advantage
  • Computer literacy (scientific software, office software, Minitab)

 

3. Managerial skills:

  • Good organizing skills
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good communication skills, convincing and building commitment within the team.
  • Ability to operate in a matrix structure in contact with different departments
